RISE KIds
The “RISE” Before and After school program represents Recreation, Imagination, Socialization and Education.

About the Program...

Please Note under Links - the Parent Packet and Application are posted.  The Application is required in our office before you child can attend.

The Before School RISE Program will be held from 7:00-9:00 a.m. at the Osgood School (cafeteria) for students K-5. Parents should walk the children in and have them sign in. Breakfast is not provided but students are welcome to eat breakfast when they first arrive.

During the morning program, children may participate in a number of structured activities that include sports, academic support, puzzles, arts, and outside play. At 8:15 a.m. children in grades 3-5 will walk to the Deer Hill School with adult supervision. At 9:00 a.m. the Osgood students will be dismissed to walk to their classrooms. The After School RISE Program will be housed at the Deer Hill School (room 145). Deer Hill students should go directly to the classroom when school is dismissed. Osgood students are dismissed to the gym at the end of school where one of our staff personnel will meet them and walk them to the Deer Hill (for inclement weather we do take a bus). A nutritious snack is served.

The After School Program runs until 6 p.m. on school days including early release days. Half Day RISE program will run similar to the afterschool program but will begin at the end of school. PLEASE NOTE - There is a separate registration for these days.  The program does not run on "no school" days including professional days. There is no afternoon program Wednesday, November 25 (the day before Thanksgiving), Wednesday, December 23 (the half day before the winter break) and the last day of school, Thursday, June 16th.

Structure…

The RISE Program is divided into two basic parts: during the first part, the participants are provided a nutritious snack and will have a set time to work on and receive basic assistance with homework assignments. The remaining time is spent on enrichment activities. Students will be participating in a wide variety of activities (including but not limited to) – cooking, arts, special guests, outdoor games, sports, team building challenges, history, music, computers, dance, and natural sciences. The activities for these themes will be planned according to State and National standards.

Please note that parents are responsible for sending a note to their child’s classroom teacher, stating which days he/she will be attending the program. Parents are also responsible for notifying the Recreation Department (email is best: recreation@cohassetma.com) if their child will be absent, or attending an alternative activity. Children who are not registered will not be allowed to attend the program. The Recreation Department must be notified of any schedule changes. In addition, notification must be sent 24 hours in advance of drop-in attendant.

PICK-UP

For safety reasons, children must be signed in (with the morning program) and out (for the afternoon program) by the parent/guardian or designated adult. In addition, please make sure that a staff member knows you are leaving with your child. The release form for pick-up lists only individuals who may take your child. This list is strictly enforced. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to inform the Recreation Department if someone not listed will be picking up your child, please notify us. We will not release your child without obtaining permission from you. The After-School Program ends promptly at 6:00 p.m. We understand that traffic and weather can be a factor in your travel time. Please plan ahead and contact and appropriate alternative to pick-up if you will be late.

Late Fees:

Children must be picked up by 6 pm. Late fees will be incurred starting at 6:05 pm and must be paid before a child attends again.

VACATIONS

The RISE program continues during the December holiday break and February and April vacations from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday – Friday.

EXTENDED DAY SUMMER PROGRAM

Summer program runs in conjunction with the Cohasset Recreation Summer Program, and provides quality childcare before and after.

DELAYED OPENINGS, CANCELLATIONS, AND EMERGENCY DISMISSALS

If the opening of the school is delayed due to inclement weather, the Before School Program will be delayed the same amount of time. Example: School opening is delayed two hours. Instead of opening at 7:00 a.m., we will open at 9:00 a.m. If the school is cancelled, the RISE Program will not be open. Please listen to the radio, local T.V. forecasts, and use a weather website to keep track of the latest cancellations and delays.

HEALTH CARE POLICY

If a child is ill, or becomes ill while attending the program, we will make every effort to contact you. If we are unsuccessful in locating you, one of your emergency contacts will be called and will be asked to pick-up the child as soon as possible. Children need to be free of fever or contagious conditions 24 hours before returning to school. Registration can be done daily, weekly or monthly online. If you would like to register for the whole year, please notify the office and we can set it up. It is important if you register weekly or monthly to pre-register and pre-pay each week or month ahead of time. Your child must be on our list to be allowed to be in our program. Please email a recent photo of your child to recreation@cohassetma.org. Application must be turned in to finish the registration process.
