Student Performance Series

The Cohasset Recreation Department, under the directorship of Ted Carroll, will sponsor a free of charge, open to the public musical performance series this summer under the guidance of Jim Armstrong, a well known and established guitar instructor teaching private lessons in Cohasset, Hingham, and Norwell.

Entitled “The Blue Jay Café Student Performance Series”, Jim’s talented guitar and vocal students from the South Shore, yet predominantly from Cohasset, MA, will provide four “Coffeehouse style” acoustic guitar and vocal based musical shows on the Cohasset Common this summer.

The “Blue Jay Café” name for the student concert series is a play on the famous Nashville Tennessee based “Blue Bird Café”, where many Country Music stars such as Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift first got their start. “I have no doubt that, sooner rather than later, one of more of my motivated students will end up on that famous stage in Tennessee. I suppose this concert series reflects my hope that I can, in some small way, play a part in them getting their start when the time is right for them!”

“Ted Carroll, the Director of the Dept. of Recreation for the Town of Cohasset, was very enthusiastic about our request to allow my best student performers to put on four musical shows this Summer and signed on right away” said Jim Armstrong. “He and the Town of Cohasset have generously provided a perfect location, at the far end of the Common closest to St. Stephen’s Church, for our musical performance series”. It is completely shaded from the hot summer sun with a surrounding grove of trees, “very important to keep our audience, young and old, comfortable enough to enjoy the music”.

Jim is confident that his guitar and vocal performers, ranging in age from 7 years old to adult, will put their best foot forward during the concerts. “I am continually amazed at the talent of my students, and am proud of them all. But I am most impressed that they have all signed up to share their musical talents with the rest of the Town- now those are real performers!” says Jim.

The “Blue Jay Café Student Concert Series” will take place on the Cohasset Common, Cohasset, MA. Performance dates, all on Fridays from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, are July 9th, July 23rd, August 6th, and August 20th.
